A permanent resident who illegally practised dentistry was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment by the Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The twenty-nine-year-old defendant, Hayimmah binti Bahri, admitted in the Magistrate's Court last month to fitting braces on, patients and giving consultation to patients whom she found through her Facebook page.
She had also applied to Magistrate Azrimah binti Abdul Rahman to retract her plea after she appointed defence counsel Ahmad Basuni Abas.
Magistrate Azrimah rejected the application and took into account the defendant's pleas for leniency, including that she is a young mother with two young children and her husband works on shifts.
DPP Dayangku Didi Nuraza binti Pengiran Latiff represented the Public Prosecutor in the case.
