BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A twenty-six-year-old local man was sentenced to jail and ordered to settle a fine for breaking into cars to steal belongings, and also for reckless driving.

The defendant, Muhammad Rejab bin Haji Rambli, was sentenced by Chief magistrate Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Kefli to serve jail for a year and six months and pay a BND$3,000 fine.

The defendant broke into a car on April 12 and stole the car parts, a pen drive and a guitar amplifier.

On April 24, the defendant broke into another car, however, he was caught in the act by the car owner and did not get to steal anything.

The car owner caught the defendant's face on camera phone and sent it to the police.

Later, the defendant who was travelling in his car was stopped by police patrol but managed to escape briefly. A car chase ensued between the police and the defendant which resulted in the defendant driving in a dangerous manner.

He then stopped his car at Jalan Chancellor, Universiti Brunei Darussalam and ran for the jungles.

He was arrested soon after.
