JALAN KAMPONG BERANGAN, BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The opening ceremony for Chung Hwa Middle School's (CHMS) Bandar Seri Begawan annual Trilingual Month took place yesterday at the school's Darussalam Hall where the chief guest was Lim Peh Beng, Public Relations Officer at CHMS.

Themed 'Trilingualism is a bliss', the event aims to instil a positive attitude among students in learning different languages because the school believes that people who are trilingual have more chance of success.

The Principal of CHMS, Kho Guik Lan said, "Knowing three languages is of importance, especially when Brunei Darussalam tries to diversify its economy. Mastering three languages allows us to communicate with the outside world effectively."

She said that the school will improve its WiFi coverage and employ more "flip-classroom" activities to cultivate autonomous learning and passion for learning three languages.

The event featured stage performances that included a pidato speech entitled 'Pentingnya Bersukan' by Sharmita Tanushri Sures, an English sketch of Romeo and Juliet by lower primary students, a Chinese Huang Mei song performance, an English song entitled 'Try' and a Malay dance entitled Joget Berhibur'.

The event concluded with a tour by the chief guest of the exhibition set up by the school's Language Department.
