Enforcement against the Sale of Prohibited Medicinal and Cosmetic Products

The Ministry of Health through the Pharmacy Service Department in collaboration with the Royal Customs and Excise Department, the Royal Brunei Police Force, RBPF and the Attorney General's Chambers this morning held a media conference on "Enforcement against the Sale of Prohibited Medicinal and Cosmetic Products at Business Premises and On Social Media under the Medicines Order 2007. The Session took place at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Health.
During the media conference, Pengiran Doctor Haji Khalifah bin Pengiran Haji Ismail, the Director General of Health and Medical Service explained the Brunei Darussalam Medicine Control Authority was formed under the Medicines Order 2007 as part of the Ministry of Health's efforts to control the sale of medicinal, traditional medicines and cosmetic products in the country in a more efficient and effective way. The objectives of the Medicine Order 2007 were to ensure such products marketed and consumed in Brunei Darussalam are safe, good quality and effective. Pengiran Doctor Haji Khalifah added every medical product must be registered before being marketed in the country.
Pengiran Doctor Haji Khalifah laso reminded vendors not to display and sell cosmetic products which have not be cleared and that vendors should first notify the Pharmacy Service Department. The Ministry of Health will continue to monitor such products in order to protect the health and safety of the country's people. All vendors, including cube and online vendors to be more responsible and cautious in selecting products for the Brunei market. The ministry also advised consumers to be cautious in choosing the products they want to use and seek the advice of doctors and pharmacists and seek approval from the Ministry of Health.
The Royal Brunei Police Force also reminds the public that it is an offence to obstruct, threaten, abuse, disturb or assault enforcement officer's tasked with implementing the Medicines Order 2007.
