Voting For A New Village Chief

The voting and election of a village chief is vital to the village residents as the elected village chief will determine the direction of a village and act as a mediator between the government and the community. It is the responsibility of a village chief to ensure, preserve and maintain understanding, unity and harmony of the community as well as encourage cooperation among the villagers. This was said by the Brunei Muara District Officer at the Voting and Election for a new village chief of the Sungai Buloh (Bukit Sibanging) Land Scheme for the Indigenous in Mukim Mentiri, yesterday morning.
Among those in attendance was Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman, Member of the Legislative Council as the Village Chief of Kampung Masjid Lama, Muara Town, Sabun and Pelumpong. Awang Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim then stressed the role of village chief in organising meetings with the Village Consultative Council and its residents to discuss matters concerning development and well-being, in particular related to issues raise by the village residents. These include the countries and village's security and tranquillity. Only one candidate was voted for the post namely Awang A. Hamidun bin Mohd Daud, aged 52. The result of the voting will be submitted and supported for consideration and subsequent process by the Ministry of Home
