Court Rejected Appeal Made by Pedophile Rapist

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Court of Appeal recently rejected the application of a man who was convicted for raping a 13-year-old girl to have his sentences revised as the Justices saw no merit in the appeal.

The Justices decided that the sentencing judge correctly noted the serious features of the case.

The man who is an adopted brother of the victim had abused his position in the family and attempted to deny the offence in the face of compelling evidence, the court heard.

On a night in November 2011, he entered the victim's bedroom, covered her mouth and raped her despite her struggle to run away.

"He had caused fear and humiliation on three separate occasions, first when he raped her, secondly, when she gave birth and thirdly, when she had to re-live the events by giving evidence at the trial," the court heard.

DPP Pengiran Suzana binti Pengiran Abas appeared for respondent in the appeal.
