Various efforts continue to be carried out to tackle the spread of non-communicable diseases, NCD's based on the Ministry of Health's Action Plan in implementing the Brunei Darussalam Multi-Sectoral National Action Plan For The Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases 2013-2018, or in short, Bru-MAP NCD. Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Dr.Haji Mohd Isham bin Jaafar, Minister of Health explained the matter in response to the query on the issue of non-communicable diseases raised by Yang Berhormat Dayang nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii.
Yang Berhormat said that at the moment, Brunei Darussalam has implemented 9 out of 10 progress indicators for prevention of NCD's according to the WHO NCD Progress Report 2017. According to WHO NCD's progress monitoring report 2017, Brunei Darussalam is among the regional countries that has obtained the highest achievement. The Ministry will further continue its efforts to increase the control of NCD's, not only for senior citizens but also from an early age, through basic education using a multi-sectoral method. In tackling the number of NCD patients which spans all ages, the Ministry of Health also requires an increase in the number of staff who are skilled in tackling non-communicable diseases issues. This includes local and foreign medical specialists. The prevention and control of NCD's require cooperation from various sectors holistically either in the government or private sectors as well as related stakeholders.
