BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Issue on the status of halal food also received due attention from the Minister of Health. In adding to the explanation made by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Doctor Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar touched on the Public Health (Food) Act Chapter 182. According to the act, any process foods that are to be imported to Brunei Darussalam must be registered to the Ministry of Health through the Food Health and Quality Section. Yang Berhormat explained since 6th October 2016, application for registration of import food can be made on line through the government portal E-Darussalam.

Documents needed such as certificate or document issued by the authority of the country where the foods were processed, must be downloaded from the system. This is to ensure that the food products were processed at the clean food premises and supervised by the authority on the country. The documents are license for factory, good manufacturing practice certificate, hard analysis critical control point, HACCP certificate, ISO 22000 certificate or other related documents. The documents will be inspected during reviewing the processed food importation registration application, besides reviewing the food package labelling including details in the ingredients, food additives in ensuring the food products are made with safe ingredients.
