Brunei Darussalam is similar to many other nations, who are faced with economic diversifications, the need to fulfil water demands from different water user sectors, and affluent lifestyle. Brunei Darussalam continues to plan with strategic foresights, brace for climate variability and utilise technologies with capacity development to ensure continuous national growth. The matter was highlighted by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Minister of Development at the Brunei Darussalam's National Statement at the Ministerial Conference of the 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia, Brazil.
Touching on the challenges to ensure the water safety for the socio-economy, Yang berhormat stressed that the Ministry of Development continues to plan and develop strategically the necessary soft and hard infrastructures to address national challenges. During the forum, Yang Berhormat also participated in the Ministerial Roundtable Discussions related to water by exchanging and sharing views on impediments to sustainable water management, on how water can be used more efficiently and sustainably and best practices in water governance.
The Minister of Development and his delegation also attended several thematic and special sessions focus on water challenges and solutions, as well as projects carried out by the international organization and institution towards Goal 6 of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goal on water security and sanitation. At the Forum, the Minister of Development had bilateral sessions with His Excellency, José Sarney Filho, the Minister of the Environment of the Federal Republic of Brazil and Madam Daniela Krahl, Head of Delegation of the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, Germany. The Minister of Development also participated in The High Level Meeting on the drafting of ministerial declaration for global water-sharing mission. Among those who participated was Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, the Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional) at the Ministry of Development.
