To help the less capable to gain extra income, the Agriculture and Agrifood Department this morning introduced a basic and inexpensive agriculture technique that enables them to engage in agricultural enterprises especially vegetable farming using a modified hydrophonic and fertigation model. Two participants from Brunei Muara District and two others from Tutong District received the assistance.
The vegetable farm was launched by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. The simple and inexpensive technique uses used and recycled materials and does not require a big investment capital, besides needing only a small area. As a result of the financial simulation, the technique is able to produce vegetables worth from 400 dollars to one thousand dollars per month, depending on the type of vegetables planted and the participants' hard work. The planting models were handed over to Dayang Zunaidah binti Haji Mohiddin, a youth from Kampung Kasat and Dayang Suriani binti Manaf, a single mother from Kampung Lugu National Housing.
Yang Berhormat then visited the vegetable planting site of Dayang Adeyshahmi binti Haji Mat Niah, a single mother in Kampong Bukit Panggal. With a capital of between 30 to 80 dollars, she plants a variety of vegetables with the guidance, instruction, combined techniques and other assistance such as vegetable seeds and fertilisers.
The vegetable planting technique used by Dayang Nur Haziyah binti Muhammad Abas, a single mother in Kampung Bukit also attracted the attention of the delegation led by the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. The visit was also hoped to motivate and spur the spirit of all levels of society to engage in agricultural enterprises as sources of income.
