His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council in a sabda said the country's participation in the Commonwealth Games is not only a statement of support for the Commonwealth Games Federation. In fact it also signifies the country's priority to sports especially in scouting for talent to represent it at international events to assess the capabilities of the athletes. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the Presentation of the National Flag to the Brunei Darussalam Contingent To the 21st Commonwealth Games in Australia yesterday morning. In the sabda His Royal Highness also reminded the National athletes not to take their participation in the games lightly although they are sponsored by the organisers. His Royal Highness added the country's participation is an opportunity entrusted to the athletes and officials to present themselves as 'moral assets' by displaying the true Bruneian identity. The country's ability to compete in the games, His Royal Highness said not only stems from physical capabilities but also a relentless spirit that never accept defeat.

 The ceremony which took place at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium began with the recital of Al-Fatihah led by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Suhaili bin Haji Metali Al-Hafiz.

 Yang Berhormat (Rtd) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in a welcoming address said the country's continuous participation in the Commonwealth Games shows its commitment to international sports events although Brunei Darussalam is a small nation. 

 In the sabda, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah also stressed for the National athletes to perform their best at the prestigious event because His Royal Highness believed the best performance will lead the country to excellence. On the issue of discipline including the anti-doping regulation, His Royal Highness reminded that the athletes and officials selected to represent the country should already possess elements of discipline in themselves.

 His Royal Highness then handed over the National Flag to (Retired) Major Mohd Talip bin Haji Mohd Tahir as the Chef de Mission of the Brunei Darussalam Contingent To the 21st Commonwealth Games. 8 athletes are taking part in the games. They are accompanied by 4 officials comprising the Chef de Mission, Secretariat Officer, Team Manager and Coach. The national contingent is participating in only event, lawn bowling. The contingent is expected to leave for the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia on the 1st of April. The Commonwealth Games takes place from the 4th to the 15th of next month.
