VIENTIANE, LAOS

Vice President Phankham Viphavanh on May 11 received a courtesy call from Australian Ambassador to Laos John Williams on the occasion of the President’s election to the post.

President Bounnhang was elected to the post at the first meeting of the National Assembly held from April 20 and 22.

At the cordial talks, the Vice President also congratulated the Australia ambassador for his significant contributions to strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between Laos and Australia.

Since 2009, the Australian government has provided support and assistance to Lao government for educational development, the promotion of trade and investment, and rural development.

Between 2010 and 2015, Australian investment accounted for 15 projects with a combined cost of over AUD86 million ranking Australia 14th out of 53 foreign investors in the Lao PDR.
