KG LUBOK PULAU, TUTONG

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday paid a visit to the home of Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Samat, the Village Head of Kampong Lubok Pulau.

The visit was part of the house key plaques presentation ceremony for semi-detached and terrace houses under the Bukit Beruang National Housing Scheme in Tutong District.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by the village head as well as village residents who lined up along the drive way leading to the home of Haji Abdul Rahman to shake hands with the monarch.

Before entering the house, His Majesty was greeted by a musical performance played by a gulingtangan group from the Arts and Culture Section of the Tutong District Office.

His Majesty was introduced to the family members prior to a conversation between the monarch and Haji Abdul Rahman on the upkeep of the village. The monarch recalled that it had been the second time he visited Haji Abdul Rahman's house.

Haji Abdul Rahman said that the area is not as badly hit by flooding nowadays and its residents are receiving continuous assistance from His Majesty's Government.

He later told the media representatives that His Majesty's first visit was in 2009 when floods hit the area, adding that the flooding problem has lessened after the completion of the Ulu Temburong Dam.

His Majesty was then presented with a royal parchment by Haji Abdul Rahman, which the monarch signed to mark his historic visit.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, consented to receive a pesambah.

As a token of appreciation, the village head presented His Majesty with a pesambah, an antique coal-heated iron which was passed down to Haji Abdul Rahman from his grandfather who purchased it in 1957.
