Brunei Darussalam believes that social harmony is very important to create and maintain peace and security. Through education and dakwah, the government continuously strives to instil mutual respect among all parties.

 

This was stated by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs, during the first session of the 26th Round of the General Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Aswan, Egypt, over the weekend.

 

The two-day conference, according to a press release, was organised by Egypt's Awqaf Ministry and saw the presentation of 12 research papers under the theme 'Arabia - The Role of the Religious Institutions in both Islam and the World in Facing Challenges and Hopes; A Critical Analysis and Objective Examination'.

 

It was launched by the Awqaf Minister of Egypt, Professor Dr. Mohamed Mokhtar Jum'ah, and attended by ministers and muftis from Arab, Asian and African countries, as well as academics from higher learning centres, Islamic and non-Muslim social activists.

 

Yang Berhormat Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin also had a meeting with Professor Dr. Mohamed Mokhtarium'ah to discuss bilateral cooperation in the field of religion.

 

Also in attendance were Awang Haji Abdul Kahar bin Haji Hussin, Brunei Darussalam Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA).
