Four hikers from Kuching were rescued by a Search and Rescue (SAR) team after they lost their way in Lambir National Park on Sunday.

They were found stranded at the ‘Pantu’ check point (inside the national park) at 8.20pm.

The hikers were aged 27 to 32 years.

It was understood that the four friends, all men, are insurance agents, and they started hiking at about 8am that day.

A victim, surname Bong, said it was fortunate his cellphone could be used to call for help.

“We were sitting at the hut at the ‘Pantu’ check point exhausted when I made the call.

“Luckily, the phone signal was within range.

“I immediately called ‘999’ for help,” he said when met by The Borneo Post.

Acting on the 6.31pm distress signal, a team of firemen were rushed to the scene, located some 34km from the city centre.
