Permanent Resident Gets 7 Months' Jail for Carjacking

The Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday sentenced a permanent resident to seven months' imprisonment after the defendant pleaded guilty to committing car theft.
The twenty-seven-year-old defendant, Mohammad Ibrahim bin Haji Simat, was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22 read with Section 34 of the same, for stealing a Volkswagen Polo from the victim's home in Kampong Mulaut at 12,45am on December 2, 2015.
The offence carries imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, a fine or both.
Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriani binti Haji Abdul Rahman ordered the sentence to take effect May 14, 2016.
