A forty-two-year-old local man has been charged with two counts of attempting to commit rape and outraging the modesty of a 15-year-old girl on April 16, 2016, and trespassing into a house with the intention to commit an offence.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Shamsuddin Kamaluddin, the defendant, Johari bin Haji Zaini, allegedly molested the girl by pinning her down with his body at his home in Kg Mentiri.

He was charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 22 with Section 511 of the same, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term that may extend to 30 years, and whipping.

The defendant is also charged with trespassing into a house in Kampong Panchor Mengkubau with the intention of committing an offence punishable under Section 448 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22.

The deputy public prosecutor has applied for the case to be remitted to the Intermediate Court. The defendant will be further remanded until further mention.
