BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A twenty-nine-year-old man was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment by the Magistrate's Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to trespassing with the intention of committing theft at the premises of the former International School Brunei (ISB) in Kampong Burung Pingai, Berakas on May 17, 2016.

The defendant, Saifuddin bin Haji Ahad, walked from his house in Rimba to Berakas and entered the building at about 12pm without the consent of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) who is in possession of the premises since early 2016.

Two RBAF Officers on their routine patrol in the vicinity discovered the defendant carrying some items which include a number of aluminium window frames, and captured the defendant.

According to a police statement, the defendant had admitted to entering the property to collect scrap metals with the intention to sell them.

As the defendant had no previous criminal convictions prior to this and is unemployed, the magistrate considered his plea of guilt and sentenced him to two weeks' imprisonment with no fine.
