View Spread and Threat of Deviant Teachings Seriously, Religious Bodies Told

 March 28th, 2016  |  13:42 PM  |   4123 views

TAWAU, SABAH

The authorities, particularly Islamic religious bodies, should give serious attention to the spread and threat of deviant teachings in the country before the problem becomes uncontrollable.

Sabah Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said stern action needed be taken against those involved as their movement and activities could threaten peace, security and racial harmony.

“This is to control and overcome the threat more effectively. The public, especially Muslims, should provide information on the activities of deviant groups to the authorities,” he told reporters after a gathering and sports event organised by the Taman Apas Permai Rukun Tetangga here yesterday.

Tawfiq, who is also Apas assemblyman, was asked to comment on the revelation by Sabah police deputy commissioner, Datuk Awang Sahari E.M. Hadzeer, that 50 people including families who were followers of the Millah Abraham deviant teachings had been detected in the Tawau district.

He said in Sabah, Tawau was especially exposed to various deviant teachings from outside the country because of its proximity to the border area.

Therefore, he urged youths not to be easily influenced by deviant teachings and to always increase their knowledge on true Islamic teachings.
