The 100 Finale Just Staged A Beautiful Reunion, But Did The World Get Saved?

Well, so much for saving the world.

Clarke managed to defeat A.L.I.E. in tonight's finale of The 100, but it wasn't easy, and it doesn't mean her fight is over.

While her friends and remaining non-chipped allies fought off A.L.I.E.'s little army, Clarke went after the kill switch. Of course, there was still the problem of the last nightblood being brain dead, and therefore unable to operate the flame, but there was a simple solution to that. All Murphy, Clarke, and Abby had to do was open up Ontari's chest, have Murphy hand-pump her heart, and transfuse her black blood into Clarke's body while she took the flame. Easy as pie, right?

There were a few rough moments, but it worked for the most part. Clarke was able to take on the flame and take the chip, while still controlling what she did. The City of Light turned out to look a lot like a present-day downtown, and was filled with people just wandering around aimlessly, except for Jasper, who was having a great time eating ice cream.

A.L.I.E. quickly learned that Clarke was in the city, and realized she was not on her program. So, she uploaded Clarke's software as if it were a virus to all of the residents of the city, who then knew to attack Clarke.

Fortunately, she was saved by none other than Lexa, who seemed to be very much the same Lexa who Clarke had just lost. Their reunion was sweet, if short.

"I thought I'd never see you again," Clarke managed to say through her injuries. Apparently, she can experience pain in the City of Light.

"I told you, my spirit would choose wisely," Lexa replied.

They shared a kiss as they ran, and realized that Clarke's watch was counting down how long they had to find the kill switch before A.L.I.E. was updated the the operating system in Clarke's head, deleting that kill switch for good.

Lexa helped Clarke find the kill switch, despite running into Jasper and Jaha, and she left Lexa in the middle of a fight as she climbed through a hatch, right into Becca's laboratory.

Becca showed Clarke the kill switch, but just before she could pull it, A.L.I.E. appeared to show Clarke the horrible truth.

All the nuclear power plants left over from the first end of the world were starting to burn down, making a large percentage of the planet uninhabitable within the next six months. People could survive in the City of Light, but not in the real world.

On the other hand, is the City of Light really any kind of survival at all?

Clarke thought about it until the last possible second before flipping the switch.

"We'll figure it out," she said. "We always do."

She woke up back in Lexa's throne, just as all the other chipped people were also waking up and realizing what they were doing. Octavia took the first opportunity she had to stab Pike multiple times, killing him pretty deservedly dead.

Bellamy wondered why Clarke didn't look a little happier that she had just saved the world. "We didn't," she said.

And that was the end. Does this mean that season four will follow Clarke's attempts to save the world from another nuclear disaster, or is there a bigger threat looming on the horizon? We'll have to wait until 2017 to find out!
