Al-Idrus Junior FT illustrated why a fellow league rival have spoken highly of them after stunning Menglait FC with a 3-2 win in the Brunei DST Premier League at the Tutong Sports Complex over the weekend.
Undefeated Setia Perdana are understood to be wary of the Brunei-Muara District League winners brand of football and have afforded respect to such an extent that they are capable to scale greater heights of winning promotion to the Brunei DST Super League.
The early promise set by the newly promoted 'side has backed an insight made by a member of the Setia Perdana management that it is too early to determine the favourites to move up to Brunei's top tier as the new challengers may have something to shout about.
"We are not too certain about being considered promotion candidates because it is too early to determine and we also have new challengers with the likes of Al-Idrus who are a good team," said Setia Perdana head coach Haji Lalim bin Haji Piut earlier this season.
The trio of Syazwi Mohin, Zainol Ariffin Mansor and Adie Arsham Muhd Salleh, who already boasted top-flight experience, all found their names in the scoresheet while Menglait's goals were scored by Hidayattullah Zaini and Nurhidayat Abbas.
The result has also demonstrated that an all-conquering team that fall in the same class as Lun Bawang in 2014 and Kota Ranger in 2015 have yet to be discovered especially since Setia Perdana have earlier surrendered their 100 percent record.
Al-Idrus Junior FT earned the only berth in the Brunei DST Premier League via the Brunei-Muara District League route after surviving a group stage format before being decided in an elimination decider process in the final round.
Meanwhile, BSRC FT recovered from their opening day loss in style after trouncing sorry IKLS FC 4-0 at the Berakas Sports Complex.
IKLS, no doubt looking to repeat their 2014 success when they qualified as runners-up, dropped down a division after only one season in the Brunei DST Super League following relegation last year together with Kilanas FC.
