Laos Readies For Coming 15th ASCC Council Meeting

VIENTIANE, LAOS
Laos is ready to host the coming 15th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Pillar (ASCC) council meeting, which will be held in Luang Prabang on June 1-6.
Director of the Mass Media Department, Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Pinpathana Phanthamaly made the announcement at a press conference held in Vientiane Capital on May 20.
The meeting will provide the participants opportunities to discuss solutions to unsolved issues and the translation of socio-cultural pillar master plan 2025 into reality to achieve goals set by ASEAN leaders, especially ASEAN vision 2025, to ensure that ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, is a community that is people-centred and socially responsible with a view to achieving enduring solidarity and unity among the nations and peoples of ASEAN by forging a common identity and building a caring and sharing society which is inclusive and harmonious where the well-being, livelihood, and welfare of the peoples are enhanced.
The meeting will approve several important documents of Laos including the Vientiane Declaration on Transition from Informal Employment to Formal Employment towards Decent Work Promotion in ASEAN and the Vientiane Declaration on Reinforcing Cultural Heritage Cooperation in ASEAN.
The ASCC meeting is an important event for the establishment of three pillars. The meeting will be held two times during Laos’ chairmanship of ASEAN.
The coming ASCC meeting will draw ASEAN ministers from relevant sectors and makes up one of the three pillars. This pillar covers information and culture, education and sports, environment, disaster management, health, social welfare and labour, women, poverty reduction, youth, and science and technology.
