A serial thief was sentenced to 14 months' jail yesterday for shoplifting.

Magistrate Azrimah binti Abdul Rahman took into account 45-year-old Haji Jafri bin Haji Mohammad's record and saw the need for a lengthy jail term.

Haji Jafri stole four cans of Ayam Brand sardine and four cans of Rex Cuttlefish from a shop in Kampong Perpindahan Mata-Mata at 2.10pm on March 23.

The prosecution also informed the court that a shop attendant was looking at the CCTV footage and caught the defendant putting the canned goods into his bag and leaving without paying.
