COMMONWEALTH DRIVE, BRUNEI-MUARA
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance (Performance), Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, received a courtesy call from the Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam, Ahmed Ali Sirohey.
While briefing the foreign envoy about the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the permanent secretary explained that MoF controls treasury, prepares and manages budget, as well as looks after the expenditure and saving in the ministry.
Additionally, the MoF is also in charge of registering companies intending to do business in the country and also controls the Customs Authority and Revenue Department.
The acting high commissioner then thanked the permanent secretary for his briefmg and praised the ongoing reforms to make Brunei a business-friendly country.
The envoy added that Pakistani investors are interested in investing in the country if a more enabling atmosphere is created, as Brunei is centrally located and can successfully market itself as a hub of business activities. He also noted that the double taxation treaty will benefit Pakistani professionals working in the Sultanate.
Pakistani investors in agriculture, textile, ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, home appliances, sports goods, plastic goods, light machinery and leather garments, he said, can be attracted if the appropriate incentives, including easing of visas, are offered.
The permanent secretary expressed appreciation for the envoy's ideas and a commitment to work together in deepening bilateral trade and investment relations.
