Global FC Thrash Nagaworld to Set Up Singapore Cup Tie with Tampines

Three goals in the first half-hour set Global FC on the road to their Singapore Cup victory at Jalan Besar Stadium.

SINGAPORE

Philippines outfit Global FC will meet S.League giants Tampines Rovers in the 2016 RHB Singapore Cup quarterfinals after easily dispatching Cambodia side Nagaworld FC 5-0 at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday night.

Three goals in the first 32 minutes effectively killed off the game before Leigh Manson's side put gloss on the victory with two late goals.

Things could have been different though if Nagaworld had scored within two minutes of kickoff but South Korean forward Park Yongjun failed to get the better of Global goalkeeper Patrick Deyto in a one-on-one situation.

They would live to rue that missed opportunity as Global opened the floodgates on nine minutes. Mario Clarino's low right-wing cross was not properly dealt with by the Nagaworld defence, leading to Japanese winger Hikaru Minegishi thumping home at the back post.

Minegishi was it again just a minute later as he followed up on Omid Nazari's shot, which came back off the post, to thump home the rebound from two yards out.

Nagaworld could have pulled one back thereafter, but Befolo Privat and Park both spurned close-range opportunities.

Global would put the result to bed two minutes after the half-hour mark, with Clarino left unmarked to head home captain Misagh Bahadoran's inswinging corner.

The United Football League (UFL) outfit continued to enjoy a glut of chances in the second half but only managed to net again until the 77th minute. Put through by Bahadoran's slide-rule pass, Nazari expertly brushed aside his marker inside the box before firing clinically into the bottom left corner.

The rout was completed six minutes later. Left-back Daisuke Sato spotted Nagaworld custodian York Ary off the line before unleashing an audacious looping volley that dipped in from 35 yards out.

Global could have scored a sixth deep into injury time when Bahadoran dusted himself off to take a spot kick after being brought down. But the 28-year-old's effort was tipped around the post by Ary.

That did not make any difference to the result though as Global cruised through to set up a tasty two-legged quarterfinal tie with AFC Cup rivals Tampines.

Nagaworld FC: York Ary (GK), Ngoy Srin (Chheng Meng 37'), Sok Rithy, Mhim Sovannara, Sun Sovanrithy, Prak Chanratana (Sary Matnorotin 26'), Sos Suhana, Masahiro Fukasawa (C), Tum Saray (Thorn Darapich 66'), Befolo Privat, Park Yongjun

Global FC: Patrick Deyto (GK), Jerry Barbaso, Milan Nikolic, Marco Casambre, Daisuke Sato, Mario Clarino (Andreas Esswein 86'), Matthew Hartmann, Serge Kaole (Paolo Bugas 73'), Omid Nazari (Charles Pettys 78'), Hikaru Minegishi, Misagh Bahadoran (C)
