TAWAU

Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak yesterday announced that the Sabah 1,236-kilometre Pan Borneo toll fee dual carriageway from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu costing about RM12.8 billion would be completed within six years by 2022.

Najib assured that it would be the vision of Sabah to narrow the development gap between Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia and the state would be further developed under the leadership of Barisan National (BN).

There will be two promised contracts to be fulfilled by BN, namely the upgrading of the Jalan Donggongon-Papar Spur (3B package) and the five-kilometre Tawau-Sandakan dual carriageway highway (Second package/Second phrase), which are expected to be constructed in early June.

He said this when launching the second phrase of the Pan Borneo Sabah Tawau-Sandakan dual carriageway highway at SMK Balung here yesterday afternoon.

Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman, Public Works Minister Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof, ministers, assistant ministers, members of parliament and assemblymen.

“This project is dedicated to Sabahans who are always loyal to BN. We want the people to know that the government’s aspirations, wishes and visions are not a dream but a reality.

“This construction project, from Km43 in Tawau township to Km48 at Semporna check-point roundabout, will transform the local economy among the rural and urban residents here, apart from boosting the tourism industry,” he said.

The project will also support the infrastructure and logistic network of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Tawau and other industries under the Sabah Economic and Investment Authority (Sedia).

The Sabah Pan Borneo project will create a positive impact on the infrastructure landscape and socio-economy in Sabah while it connects with the other main districts  in Sabah such as Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, and Kudat.

This project will be implemented via the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) by Borneo Highway PDP Sdn Bhd (BHP) according to the Key Performance Indicator (KPI).

Earlier, Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman disclosed that Sabah had always been in our Prime Minister’s heart and it was not the first time for him to visit Sabah, and he would visit Lahad Datu again in  September.

He said Sabahans are loyal to the leadership and would stand behind their leaders for national solidarity.

“I believe this Pan Borneo project can become an economic catalyst for Sabah which can bring a bright future to the state. I hope the people of Sabah will not forget the government,” he said.
