Out-going Sibu police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi praises for the community for their cooperation in fighting crime , saying this had provided a solid base in community policing.
Speaking at his farewell parade yesterday morning, Mohd Kamal Kordi, who has served in Sibu for more than two and half years, said since he arrived, crime index had been dropping and because of the good community spirit, the police had achieved a high crime solving rate at over 50 per cent.
He called on the people to maintain this spirit and goodwill, adding he had faith Sibu would continue to a peaceful and orderly town when another police officer take over.
“There were 1,392 cases reported in 2014. The solving rate then was at 50.6 per cent or 705 cases. Last year, crime rate dropped by 29.6 per cent with a reduction of 412 cases at 980. The solving rate remained at a high 74.18 per cent or 727 cases.”
He said the regular police patrol in the neighbourhood had helped and he assured this dedication of the police would remain.
He noted that during the recent election campaign, there was no untoward incident.
He recalled before he arrived here, he had heard of rumours about the town, as a hotbed for gangsterism.
However, when he took his office in December 2013, he found the people being friendly and working closely with the police.
He reminded his colleagues in Sibu the police were not the boss of the town, but, the keeper of peace.
“Your foremost duty is to keep this town safe for the community. I have faith the people will maintain the goodwill with us.”
Mohd Kamal Kordi left Sibu yesterday afternoon. A new police chief will take over from him soon. The acting police chief now is Supt Martin Koo.
