Upon arrival at the SMARTER EDGE Centre, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin haji Mohamad Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Minister of Health and Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman, the President of SMARTER Brunei. The President of SMARTER Brunei, in his welcoming speech, said with the appropriate environment, SMARTER Brunei  is able to develop its own unique strategy and curriculum which is recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO.

SMARTER Brunei was established in the country in 2001 with its role to create awareness towards individuals with Autism and guiding them so that that they are able to progress and face life challenges together with other members of the community. To date, SMARTER Brunei has three centres - one in the Belait District and two in the Brunei Muara District.

His Royal Highness officiated the SMARTER EDGE Centre. At this ceremony, His Royal Highness also presented certificates to the donors and sponsors for the construction of the centre. The donors and sponsors comprised Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and a number of local companies.

This new centre which has 12 classrooms can accommodate up to 72 students in the morning and another 72 in the afternoon. Out of the 12 classrooms, 5 were sponsored by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah with the rest by several local companies. Yayasan also sponsored the purchase of SMARTER EDGE Centre's learning equipment, and helps finance the management and running of SMARTER Brunei activities. Through this centre, SMARTER Brunei hopes to provide services of world class quality for children with autism.

Establishment of the centre with a modern concept is more meaningful with dedication, commitment and high level of professionalism among the staff of the centre.

Furthermore, SMARTER Brunei conducts its programmes, activities and curriculum that are easily understood, sustainable and with an efficient teaching method. His Royal Highness' visit reflected His Royal Highness' support, care and attentiveness towards the well-being of the autistic in the country.
