A 70 times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony for Members of Consultative Councils of Mukims and Villages in the Temburong District took place yesterday in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 70th Birthday celebration.
The ceremony was held at the Kampung Rataie National Housing Mosque.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs was present.
Also attending the ceremony were Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Ahad, a member of the Legislative Council, and Awang Haji Mohamad Abdoh bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Salam, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The ceremony began with the reading of surah Al Fatihah led by the Minister of Home Affairs, followed by the mass reading the holy verses of Al Quran. 280 readers took part in the Khatam Al-Quran.
