STPRI Students Briefed on the Dangers of Fake Dental Braces

More than 200 students from the Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI) yesterday attended a talk on the effect and risks of wearing fake dental braces.
The event began with a recitation of Surah AI-Fatihah led by the school's Deputy Principal (Administration) Cikgu Haji Ismail bin Haji Ibrahim, prior to the morning talk by invited speaker, Dr Wizziyiannie binti Ahmad Md Ariffin, Senior Medical Officer from the Ministry of Health's (MoH) Department of Dental Services, who stressed that fake dental braces pose many health risks, such as tooth decay, possible infections and toxic chemicals from the bands, among other negative side effects.
The event continued with a question-and-answer session between the speaker and students.
Also present yesterday were the Principal cikgu Hajah Susilawati binti Dato Paduka Haji Muhammad, Counsellor cikgu Nur Syazilah binti Abdullah Lim, teachers and participating students.
The talk's objectives were to raise awareness among the students and advise them on the use of dental braces prescribed by professional orthodontics as well as to prevent the wrong measures.
