A 35-year-old local man was yesterday sentenced to eight months' imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to theft.
Mohd Sofian bin Mohammad, unemployed, struck a workshop store to steal car spare parts between the late morning and noon on May 29, 2016.
The defendant went to Syarikat TK Asco Workshop located in Kampong Menglait and entered the storage area through an opening at the bottom of the gate.
Inside, he saw and took a valve cover, a crank case, a cylinder head, an intercooler, a gearbox housing, a crank case cover and wiring.
The defendant took a rice sack from the store and placed the crank case cover into it and kept the remaining items near the gate to easily bring out all the stolen items.
As the defendant slipped out through the gate opening and tried to pull out some items through the same opening, workers at the workshop spotted the defendant and caught him.
The police was called and the defendant was arrested just before noon that day.
Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Kefli took into consideration the defendant's hardships and pleas for a lenient sentence, but also pondered on the defendant's previous conviction on passing the custodial sentence.
DPP Emeralda Abas prosecuted the case.
