Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Attended 15th Asean Socio-Cultural Community Council Meeting

LUANG PRABANG, REPUBLIC OF LAOS

 

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, said that ongoing commitment for Asean Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) is to promote welfare and to benefit the Asean community.

 

The minister added that, under ASCC pillar, there are various fields that involve the public daily life, among them are health, youth, community development, culture and arts, field of sports and disaster management.

 

The 15th Asean Socio-Cultural Community Council Meeting was held on June 4, in Luang Prabang, Republic of Laos.

 

The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Bonsengkham Vongdara, Information, Culture and Tourism Minister of Lao People's Democratic Republic.

 

The theme for the meeting was 'Turning Vision into Reality for a Dynamic Asean Community'. The meeting was launched by Thonhloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

 

According to minister, the Asean Community Vision 2025 long term aim is to create a united, peaceful and stable Asean that requires collective involvement from each country.

 

Asean Vision 2025 is to emphasise development of human resource towards various economy.

 

The increase in human resource capacity is important specifically in terms of involving youth because they are the productive generation of a society.

 

Youths specialising in info-communication technology serve as an asset in developing the economy.

 

The upcoming challenges to the nation can be faced properly by preparing youths with positive traits, attitudes and good values towards society in order to become a competitive and independent society.

 

The minister also emphasised the importance of culture and heritage.

 

Ministers that were present during the meeting are ministers from Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand including the Asean Secretary-General.

 

ASCC's 15th meeting was preceded by 20th Meeting of Senior Officials Committee for ASCC (SOCA) in which they submitted submit development of sectoral bodies under ASCC pillar for decision and ASCC meeting announcement.
