Students Learned to Be Scout Patrol Leaders

Deepening the knowledge about the role and responsibilities of a patrol leader is very important in scout associations.
With the cooperation of the Uniformed Units and Community Service of the Co-Curriculum Education Department at the Ministry of Education, the Junior Scouts Section of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association held the 7th Patrol Leadership Course for 31 participants.
The participants consisted of students from Year 7 to Year 9 of Sayyidina Hussain Secondary School, Rimba Secondary School, Masin Secondary School and Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School.
The event was held recently for three days and two nights at the National Scouts Training and Activity Centre of the Scouts Complex in Jalan Gadong.
Also participating in the course were special needs scout members from Pusat Bahagia of the of Community Development Department.
During the course, the participants were educated on the science of leadership in scouting and how to develop physical and mental endurance to carry out their assignments as 'patrol leaders'.
There were a total of 15 sessions in the course and participants were divided into five subgroups.
Apart from the theories of scouting, the participants were also given practical training in knotting, marching, map-reading, compass-reading, hiking, pioneering projects as well as to conduct group discussions and presentations of results individually to increase their confidence in public speaking.
Vice-President of Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association, Pengiran Wahab bin Pengiran Hassan presented certificates of appreciation to the trainers, assistants to the course, scout leaders and course participants.
Also present were the Head of the Uniformed and Community Service of the Co-Curriculum Education Department at the Ministry of Education, Cikgu Jalil bin Pengarah Haji Kapitan, officials from the Uniformed Units and Community Service, Scout commissioner and Scout leaders.
