A total of $32,800 was granted to the nation's contingent which won medals during the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held last year in Singapore as part of the Sports Excellence Reward Scheme (SPKS) of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).

Also dominating the list were Wushu athletes, Md Sufi Shayiran and younger brother Md Adi Sya'rani bin Roslan and the pair of Faustina Foo and Lee Ying Shi, who won bronze medals in the men's and women's duel event (Weapons) respectively.

Each athlete received $1,000 while head coach, Li Hun and his assistant coach received $800 and $200 respectively.

The Sepak Takraw contingent received $10,000 for winning the bronze medal in the Chinlone non-repetition primary and Chinlone same-stroke events. The eight athletes received $1,000 each while the coach, Rewat Paebchompoo, was awarded with $1,600 for his efforts.

National Pencak Silat exponent, Kifli bin Haji Hamzah received $2,000 for his bronze medal in the class E (65 to 701

All 12 netball athletes received $500 each for winning bronze during the tournament, while head coach, Thilaka Jindasa, received a sum of $1,200.

The sports associations involved in the success of the nation's achievement in the games were also granted incentives.

On hand to present the incentives, in his capacity as guest of honour, was Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, in a
ceremony held at the Di-Gadong Hall, MCYS building.

In his opening remarks, Dato Paduka Dr Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, congratulated all the recipients for their achievements during the 28th SEA Games.

He lauded the commitment of each athlete through training programmes that were systematically conducted by respective coaches as well as with the support from the all sports associations involved.

The SPKS has been included in the National Sports Policy which was introduced in 1991 for awarding incentives for athletes to excel.

It is hoped that the scheme can encourage national athletes and coaches to achieve success by carrying out their rigorous training and achieve a higher performance in sports within the region and internationally.
