Front’s Successful 10th National Meeting Celebrated

VIENTIANE, LAOS

 

President of the Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC) Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Vientiane Mayor Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, senior officials of the front, and over 600 representatives of relevant sectors took part in a meeting to celebrate the success of the 10th National Meeting of the Front.

 

The LFNC’s 10th National Meeting was held in Vientiane Capital on Jun 8-9 drawing 469 people representing Lao multi-ethnic people across the country and communities of Lao people overseas.

 

The objective of the meeting was to review the implementation of the resolution of the 9th National Meeting of the Front, looking at its strengths and weaknesses, challenges it has faced, and lessons it has learned over the past five years, and adopt new guidelines for the LFNC Central Committee for the next five years (2016-2020), Vision 2030 and other key documents.

 

Former Vice President of the National Assembly Xaysomphone Phomvihane was announced on Thursday as the new President of the Front replacing his predecessor Phandouangchit Vongsa.

 

Six Vice Presidents of the front were also announced along with its 6-member standing committee.

 

The six Vice Presidents are namely: Mr Khambay Damlath, Mr Khamla Lingnasone, Mrs Khamchanh Phomsengsavanh, Mr Chanthavong Sen-Amathmounty, Mr Som-ok Kingsada and Mr Yiakeuya Mochochongtoua.

 

The new batch of members of the LFNC Central Committee was also announced comprising 224 members including 14 religious leaders and 47 females. 

 

At the meeting, achievements recorded by the Front were highlighted.  These included national events the Front, the active role it has played in enhancing solidarity among Lao multi-ethnic people, encouraging farmers across the country to take part in promoting commercial production, food security and creating a fundamental basis for industrialization and modernization.

 

The report read at the meeting highlighted the Front’s contributions to translating into reality the Party and government policies, especially those related to rural development, the three-build oriented policy to reduce poverty, the turning of large villages into small cities in rural areas, and the development of basic infrastructure.

 

The report also highlighted the efforts the Front has made in strengthening Party organizations and Lao people’s state democratic authority, the improvement of the organizational structure and the working procedure of the Front, and its external relations and cooperation.

 

President of the Vientiane Capital People’s Council Anouphap Tounalom toldthe meeting that the 10th National Meeting of the Front is the tipping point of marching the nation and Lao people into the new era.

 

“Over the past five years, a number of achievements have been recorded: ​most fundamentally the independence, sovereignty,  and absolute territory of the nation have been firmly protected, the People’s Democratic Regime has been strongly stabilized, the society has enjoyed peace, security and remained in order, the economy has grown at a rapid, constant and stable pace with an average growth rate of 7.9% over the past five years, and with an annum per capita income reaching US$1,970, and the number of people living in poverty has been reduced to slightly over 5%,” said Mr Anouphap.

 

“Representatives at the meeting also confirmed to continue to lead the nation toward cultural civilization under the theme “Raise leadership competence and leading characteristics of the Party, ​enhance solidarity among all people, uphold the principle-based renovation policy, strongly protect and develop the country in a sustainable way marching towards the socialist goal,” said Mr Anouphap.
