Theft Suspects Jailed for Attempted Escape from Custody

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Two local men were sentenced by the Magistrate's Court yesterday to three months' jail after they pleaded guilty to escaping just before being taken into police custody.

Raubanizam bin Haji Raub, 34, and Mohd Fuad bin Mohd Ibrahim, 25, who were still on trial at the Intermediate Court on May 7, 2015 for multiple theft charges absconded from being taken into the police custody after the court denied them bail and ordered for their remand on hearing their claim of innocence to the theft charges.

DPP Dayangku Hazirah bind Pengiran Md Yusof informed the court yesterday that the duo managed to leave the court building and fled.

Mohd Fuad was arrested earlier during the day on May 8, 2015, in the vicinity of RPN Kampong Rimba, while Raubanizam was arrested later that night in the jungle area of Kampong Bengkurong.

Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil Daraina bin Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Badaruddin presided in the case.
