BANGKOK, THAILAND

Thailand will get one more bronze from the 2012 London Olympic Games after a weightlifting bronze medalist from Ukraine failed a drug test, elevating a Thai lifter who finished fourth to medal status, Pol Maj Gen Intarat Yodbangtoey, vice president of weightlifting's governing body said Wednesday.

The International Weightlifting Federation announced late Wednesday that Ukraine's Yuliya Kalina who won bronze at 58kgs was one of 10 athletes from Russia and four former Soviet countries whose doping samples revealed banned substances.

Pol Maj Gen Intarat said Ms Kalina has been suspended and her medal will be taken back for violating anti-doping rules.

Siripuch (formerly Rattikarn) Kulnoi, better known as Pook Look, who finished behind Kalina will move into the medal standings, which gives Thailand two silver medals and two bronze from the 2012 Games.

The IWF will formally notify the International Olympic Committee of its decision at a meeting in Georgia next week so that the IOC can make a formal announcement on changes in the medal standings.
