Sixty-eight orphans and children who have lost their parents yesterday received donations from the Ministry of Defence (MinDef).

Around 38 boys and 30 girls under the age of 18 years old from families of officers and staffs of the ministry received the aid.

The donation came in the form of cash and food essentials which were sourced by collections from civilian officers and staff of the ministry.

The donation ceremony was held at the Ministry of Defence Surau at Bolkiah Garrison.

Present to handover the donations was Datin Paduka Hajah Suriyah binti Haji Umar, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.

This was followed by the presentation of food essentials by Abu Sufian bin Haji Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development) at the Ministry of Defence.

The ceremony also saw a mass Tahlil and Doa Selamat recitation led by Ustaz Haji Ariffin bin Tuah from the Religious Section, Directorate of Administration and Manpower, Ministry of Defence, to pay respects to those who have passed away.

The annual event is held during Ramadhan to help the orphans prepare for their Hari Raya needs.
