Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the overwhelming victory for Barisan Nasional in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar can be attributed to the positive feedback by the women voters.
“We had our election machinery members on the ground during the campaigns and while I am surprised, I was not shocked because the feedback from the women was positive,” she told reporters after launching the Cookies Fest Ramadhan @ Pasarnita at Menara Mara here yesterday.
Shahrizat said support from women voters in both constituencies were factors for the big wins.
“The voice of the women is still strong and we can tip the scales every time,” she said, adding women voters comprised almost half of the number of voters in both constituencies.
She added the Wanita Umno and their respective counterparts would continue to use the same election campaign strategies to woo women voters in the next general election.
“We have a template and SOP which were successfully used in the last two general elections.
“Despite the (2008) tsunami, we still survived,” she added.
Shahrizat credited Barisan’s overwhelming victory to voters who chose stability, harmony and economic prosperity over the Opposition.
“The ordinary folk don’t want to get embroiled in political shenanigans as they want a Government that can give them stability, economic viability and a future,” she added.
She was commenting on the victories of Barisan’s Budiman Mohd Zohdi in Sungai Besar and Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid in Kuala Kangsar on Saturday.
They beat candidates fielded by PAS, Parti Amanah Negara and an independent.
