A total of $10,453 was raised to ease the burden of 74 orphans from Kampong Sengkurong 'B' in celebrating the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The fund was raised by the kind hearted community as well as from various organisations including the Kampong Sengkurong 'B' Village Consultative Council and Women Council.

On hand to distribute the donations was Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Haji Mohammad Sunadi bin Haji Buntar.

The ceremony was held yesterday at the residence of the Penghulu of Mukim Sengkurong, Haji Musa bin Haji Tahir.

According to the Penghulu, the annual event hopes to bring joy for the orphans especially with the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations.

He added that all orphans who received the donations are aged 18 and below, and shortlisted by the Community Development Department (JAPEM).

Prior to the donations, verses from the Al-Quran were recited to reap rewards from the holy month, followed by Tahlil and Doa Arwah.

The ceremony also saw villagers and invited guests converge for the breaking-fast at the residence.
