2010 Zambo Airport Bomber Surrenders

 April 1st, 2016  |  09:33 AM  |   3459 views

MANILA, PHILIPPINES

The suspect in the Zamboanga International Airport bombing in 2010 that killed two people and injured dozens of air travelers has surrendered before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Zamboanga airport bombing suspect Addong Salapuddin, who is facing multiple murder and multiple attempted murder cases before the Zamboanga City Regional Trial Court Branch 17, surrendered to representatives of the NBI last Wednesday evening in Zamboanga City.

He was flown to Manila yesterday morning, where he was subjected to booking procedures.

In a press conference, Salapuddin said that he ended his more than five-year run from the law as he was constantly being bothered by his conscience.

He said that he was only following the orders of a certain Imam Casim.

“Nakokonsensya ako kaya ako sumuko, pero hindi ako yung nagbomba ng airport,” Salapuddin, who is a Moro Islamic Liberation Front member, said.

Unfortunately, Salapuddin claimed that Casim is already dead, after the religious leader was stabbed dead by an unidentified assailant.

The NBI said that the suspect will be detained in its main headquarters in Ermita, Manila.

At least two people were killed while 24 others were hurt when a bomb exploded in Zamboanga City airport in Mindanao on Aug. 5, 2010.

Police said the target of that attack was Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan, who was among the injured. The suspected bomber, Reynaldo Apilado, and a bystander, Hatimil Haron, were killed in the blast.

Prior to surviving the airport blast, Tan escape a roadside bombing in Patikul town.
