Kurnia Recipients Expressed Gratitude to His Majesty

Recipients of the 'Kurnia' or personal Hari Raya contributions from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, expressed their gratitude and appreciation yesterday.
Cash gifts were presented to 5,618 less privileged individuals in the Brunei-Muara District in two separate ceremonies by the personal representatives of His Majesty - His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi'atul 'Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah at the Istana Nurul Iman, and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah at Baitur Rahmah.
One recipient was 28-year-old Ardinah binti Merali from Kampong Bolkiah A. She has four children, including her daughters Siti Nor Rabiatulnajibah binti Abdullah and Siti Nurul Rabiatulsyahrina binti Abdullah who were with her yesterday. For her financial needs, she receives welfare assistance from the government.
She has been receiving the Kurnia for seven years, and said that she uses the Kurnia for Hari Raya expenses, while also saving it for daily needs and for her children's school expenses.
"Thank you to His Majesty for giving us this Kurnia. We are very happy because we will be able to cope with Hari Raya expenses as well as daily expenses and for the children's school," she said, adding that she wishes His Majesty a long life.
Her sister, Noraidah binti Awang Merali, 27, was also a recipient. A single mother of one from Kampong Bolkiah A, she said that she intends to use the Kurnia to help with Hari Raya expenses and other necessities, though she will also be saving some of it for future expenses.
She also receives welfare assistance from the government. She highlighted that she is happy and thankful for the Kurnia.
Another recipient was 62-year-old Wong Wai Chee from Kampong Rimba, who has been receiving the Kurnia for over 10 years. She is a widow with four children, three of whom are already married, while another is studying at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Asked how she intends to use the contribution, she said for many things including various daily and monthly expenses, before adding, "Thank you very much to His Majesty."
Meanwhile, Rosnah binti Awang Aji, 54, from Kampong Ayer began receiving the Kurnia in 2010. She shared that she uses the money to pay for Hari Raya expenses, while also saving some for the future.
She has five children, four of whom are already married, while the youngest is still in school.
"Thank you to His Majesty for giving this Kurnia," she said, adding that it is important because it helps people with their daily needs.
Azman bin Ma'arof, 40, from Perpindahan Kampong Katok also received- the Kurnia yesterday. He shared that this is the second year he has received it.
He has six children, the eldest of whom is 14 years old, while the youngest is six years old.
He plans to use the Kurnia for his children, explaining, "I am very happy to receive this Kurnia. It is important because it helps people pay for their school needs and basic necessities."
He expressed gratitude to the monarch for the contribution.
Japar bin Matusin, 67, said he is very thankful to have received the Kurnia, and that he intends to use it to help with daily expenses as well as for savings.
