The Land Transport Department (JPD) is inviting the private sector and interested parties locally or internationally to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) for the development and operation of vacant land or existing infrastructure associated with the JPD's public transport upgrading project.
The EOI makes direct request to the interested parties to propose the best business model to develop and operate the infrastructure under the ownership of the JPD and other departments under the Ministry of Communications (MinCom), according to a press release.
"The EOI aims to attract and identify a company or companies with sound credibility and competencies for the development and operation of those infrastructures in order to meet the public's needs and support public transport connectivity.
"It will also enable the MinCom to assess the best business model that would suit the government's needs for active participation from the private sector in this project and to ensure sustainable operations as well as provide other opportunities," the ministry said.
The EOI document will be released commencing Saturday and can either be collected from the Land Transport Department, Jalan Gadong, Kampong Beribi, Brunei Darussalam or can be downloaded from the JPD website at www.ltd.gov.bn
The closing date for submission of proposals is Tuesday (August 3, 2016).
The statement also said the MinCom, through the JPD is currently embarking on initiatives to create a public transport system that is regulated, efficient, reliable, well connected, 'people-centric', safe and sustainable.
The key component to the overall implementation of this project is the governmentintervention-related approach which also requires active involvements from all relevant stakeholders and opens up participation from the private sector. This will create many opportunities such as business activities and jobs for locals.
To support transport connectivity and accessibility, l2 Passenger Terminals / Interchanges, 27 Feeder Hub Stations and about 1,300 new bus stops have been identified nationwide.
The tender opening took place recently for the supply of taximeters, the invitation for public participation to vote for the best bus colour and design, private sector participation to indicate interest (E0I) to operate Driving Schools and Training for Bus and Commercial Drivers and the recent EOI for the provision of public bus services.
