BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
The Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday fixed July 4 for further mention of a corruption case pending sentence, involving a government servant and a businessman.
The two defendants were convicted after trial.
Assistant Superintendent of the Fire and Rescue Department Wadi bin Haji Mohd Tuah was convicted of two counts of obtaining valuable items without consideration, while Syarikat Pro-Team Construction and Trading Sdn Bhd Managing Director Yap Tiew abetted Wadi's offences.
Wadi obtained 550 homogenous tiles valued at $605 from Yap Tiew Hon and two tonnes of cement valued at $350 in November 2011. Yap abetted these offences.
Wadi was tasked with inspecting and approving a Housing Development Project at Lot 27231, Spg 52-55-30 in Kg Mata-Mata, while Yap's company was developing the site.
This is the third mention after conviction of the defendants and sentence has not been passed as Wadi had requested to be excused as he was on medical leave.
Senior Magistrate Pengiran Masni Pengiran Bahar warned that if Wadi does not show up at the next mention, normal procedures of executing a warrant of arrest would be taken.
Wadi through his counsel submitted in court that he was about to undergo a surgery, however, yesterday only a medical leave from a private clinic was produced, and not any report from the hospital stating the need for urgent surgery.
DPP Emily Goh handled the prosecution of the case.
Wadi is represented by lawyer Yusuf Halim and Yap's lawyers are Balendran Balasingarn and Rozaiman Abdul Rahman.
