KAMPONG MELILAS, KUALA BELAIT
The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) completed a charity project to repair a surau in Kampong Melilas, Belait District.
A certificate of the project completion was handed over to Pehin Datu Pekerma Dewa Haji Mohd Ali bin Abdullah @ Itam, the Acting Penghulu of Mukim Melilas, by Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the RBAF, in a ceremony yesterday.
The repairs was carried out on Kampong Melilas' surau under the RBAF's 'Titian Amal' project and included the construction of a spacious area at the surau's entrance, new roofing, installation of lights and repainting of the surau.
The RBAF also helped to clean the compound of the surau.
The project, which started on April 18, was led by the Combat Engineer Squadron, Support Battalion Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF), while additional manpower was provided by personnel from the RBLF.
The project was done to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the RBAF.
Different from previous years where RBAF provided assistance for individual homes, this year's project focused on community centres that required construction and refurbishment.
With the newly refurbished surau, the local community is now able to perform congregational prayers and conduct religious activities.
This charitable effort is also one of the RBAF's social responsibilities in exposing the skills of the military personnel to the public particularly in carpentry, construction and team work.
