A forty-seven-year-old Indonesian man was sentenced to three months of imprisonment and three strokes of the cane, after he pleaded guilty to overstaying.
The defendant, Kuswara, had turned up at the Immigration and National Registration Department's enforcement office to inquire about his expired visa, where a subsequent investigation found that it had already expired on February 12, 2015.
Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil Daraina bin Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Badaruddin heard from Immigration prosecutor, Adi Yusra Adanan, how Kuswara had kept his passport with him all along, and did not make any efforts to extend his visa or exit the country, by February 11, 2015.
