KOTA KINABALU

A fireman suffered an electric shock when he accidently stepped on a live wire while battling a fire at Kampung Linsuk Baru, Jalan Taman Bersatu in Putatan yesterday.

State Fire and Rescue Services Officer, Superintendent Mohd Affendy Ramli said the firefighter who is attached with the Penampang fire station was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“The fireman is under doctors’ observation and reported to be in stable condition,” he said yesterday.

Mohd Affendy said the victim was among firefighters tackling the fire that destroyed eight wooden houses at a squatter area around 4pm.

He said initial investigation showed the fire started at one of the houses around 3.45pm and immediately spread to other houses which were built close to each other.

“We received a distress call at 3.50pm and sent 30 firemen in four fire engines from Penampang and Kota Kinabalu to the scene within minutes.

“While putting out the fire, one of the firefighters accidently stepped on a live wire and suffered an electric shock,” he said, adding that the fireman was immediately rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

The cause and total loss were still under investigation, he said.
