HA NOI,VIETNAM: President Truong Tan Sang yesterday met with visiting Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov in Ha Noi.
At the meeting, the State leader noted with joy the consolidated friendship and traditional cooperation between the two countries.
He said the sealing of the Viet Nam-Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Free Trade Agreement last May opened up many pragmatic cooperation opportunities for both sides.
The agreement would create a premise for the EAEU to expand its trade and investment ties with the Southeast Asian region while strengthening its co-operation with Asia-Pacific in general, he said.
Viet Nam had approved the pact domestically, the leader said, noting his hope that Russia, in its capacity as the locomotive of the union, would help speed up the ratification by other EAEU members to soon put the deal in place.
According to him, Russia's economic and trade strength matches the demands of Viet Nam and other Southeast Asian nations.
Therefore, the host said, the Viet Nam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement, once in effect, would contribute to elevating economic and trade ties between the two countries on a par with their fruitful political relations.
In reply, Shuvalov said economic and trade cooperation projects between the two countries had borne fruits, especially those in petroleum.
The First Deputy PM promised that Russia would conduct necessary procedures to make the Viet Nam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement come into force at an early date.
