This mouse had the mickey taken out of it after it got stuck in a bird feeder.

A picture showed the rodent struggling to get out after apparently becoming really fat when it ate all the food inside the device in South Shields, near Newcastle.

The tiny critter had to be rescued, but not before an amusing image was snapped that showed its little face peering out and looking for help.

The owner of the house Lisa Markwick did not really know how it got there.

‘I’m not sure whether it scaled up the wall or went along the drain pipe and fell off, but he somehow managed to get in,’ the 46-year-old said.

‘The top and bottom of the bird feeder was still attached so he must have got in through the little hole which he ended up peering out of.

‘It was a bit of a mystery but its little face was peering out asking for us to come and help.’

Ms Markwick, 46, and her partner James Dowdell, 45, filled their bird feeder with seed before heading off to work this week.

She believes the mouse could have been stuck for up to nine hours while they were out of the house.

Ms Markwick shared the snap on the BBC Springwatch Facebook page.

Thankfully the mouse was unharmed and after the bottom was taken off the feeder and placed on the ground, the mouse happily scurried away.
