If policemen ever need money for a family emergency like sickness of tragedy, they should look for the Good Samaritan residing in Malacañang. The same goes for soldiers, said the President.
President Duterte has offered to look for funds for uniformed personnel in distress as he warned them against resorting to corruption and illegal drugs for quick money.
“Yung mga pulis pati militar alam ko maliit ang sweldo ninyo, kaya kung may mga ganung sakit, God forbid yung asawa mo mag cancer ganun huwag lang magbenta ng shabu, pumunta ka sa akin (I know the salaries of the policemen and salaries are small. If ever a family member falls sick, God forbid, your wife has cancer, please don’t sell shabu. Just go to me),” Duterte said in his remarks at the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Davao City last Saturday.
“Sabihin mo sa superior down- down the line ‘Sir, pakisabi lang kay mayor na asawa ko na sa kuwan,” I will look for the money. Alam ko na hirap talaga (Tell your superior, ‘Sir, please tell mayor that my wife is sick.’ I will look for the money),” he said.
Duterte said when he was Davao City mayor, policemen usually ran to him with their financial problems.
“Kung may problema kayong malaki di talaga kaya ng bulsa, huwag magbenta ng shabu punta kayo sakin, hanap ako ng pera (So if you have a big problem that you cannot afford to handle, don’t sell shabu. Go to me and I’ll look for the money),” he added.
Duterte maintained that he does not tolerate a corrupt military and police, reiterating those criminals in uniform must resign now. He also reiterated plans to double the salary of cops and soldiers to avoid temptation and motivate them to do a better job.
“The stability of the government greatly depends on the law enforcement and the security workers. Kapag wala yan, ubos yan (,” he said.
“I cannot run with a corrupt police and the corrupt military… Kaya kayong mga pulis na andiyan sa droga you make a choice. Resign, and do not wait for my action, nakikiusap ako sa inyo,” he added.
The President earlier identified five police generals alleged involved in drug operations and ordered them relieved of their duties. An investigation is underway to probe their alleged links to the illegal drug trade.
Duterte also accused three suspected drug lords, including businessman Peter Lim who recently surrendered to the President.
The President has threatened to kill Lim if evidence shows he is involved in the drug operations. The businessman based in Cebu has denied the charges but promised to submit himself to the investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation.
